Evelyn Langston (The Widow)
Motive Financial gain through inheritance after Victor’s death. The two had a strained marriage, and Victor had recently changed his will, leaving Evelyn uncertain about her future.
- Detective:
- "Mrs. Langston, I'm sure this is a difficult time for you, but we need to ask a few questions. Can you tell me where you were around 10 PM last night?"
- Evelyn Langston:
- "I was in the garden, tending to my flowers. It helps me relax. Victor was in his study, as usual. I didn’t hear or see anything out of the ordinary until I found him… lying there." (She chokes back tears)
- Detective:
- "Your fingerprints were found on a letter clutched in Victor’s hand. Can you explain that?"
- Evelyn Langston:
- (Looking uneasy) "I don’t know… I may have given him a note earlier. We often exchanged letters when we needed to communicate about… sensitive matters."
- Detective:
- "The letter said, 'I know.' What was it referring to?"
- Evelyn Langston:
- "I have no idea. Maybe it was something from his work or one of his business partners. Victor kept a lot of secrets."
Do Evelyn’s answers seem rehearsed, or is she genuinely grieving?
Can her story about the garden be corroborated?
Could she have known more than she’s letting on?
